Merlin’s Magic Wand
6th February 2015
Merlin's Magic Wand are currently working with Victoria Education Centre in Poole - a local school that offers specialised, high quality care and therapy for young disabled people.
We took two very special pupils, Jacob and Joanne, for a once in a lifetime trip to visit the Merlin Magic Making Studios in London, where the Madame Tussauds fugures are created and the rollercoasters are designed! Both pupils are 15 years old and have genetically individual illnesses. Jacob is a rollercoaster enthusiast and Joanne is One Direction's biggest fan!
The staff at Victoria Education Centre take up the story of their day out:
"Merlin’s Magic Wand is a worldwide charity whose aim is to put some magic back into the lives of seriously ill, disabled and disadvantaged children. They are currently on site transforming our swimming pool environment and changing rooms. More on this later but, as a result of the links we have formed, we were able to take two students, Joanne and Jacob, to Merlin Studios in London. These studios are the home of the creative geniuses known as the ‘Merlin Magic Makers’ and we were very fortunate to be able to spend a day in their creative world.
They had a fantastic day and were treated like VIPs. They were taken to the moulding room where Joanne and Jacob both had the star treatment and had their arms cast – just as many celebrities have done before them! Joanne was very excited to see the figure of Liam from One Direction’s head, and even managed to give him a sneaky kiss…the highlight of Joanne’s day!
During a full tour around the studios they were able to see the full process of creating a figure including seeing various famous figures in different points of completion. They also spent an hour with four rollercoaster designers who were able to show them the secrets behind the creation of some of the best known rollercoasters – they were taken through the process of creating 'Smiler’ from start to finish and the students were able to experience the feeling of being on a rollercoaster whilst sat in the meeting room thanks to the ‘Oculus’ technology headset which Jacob particularly enjoyed.
Huge thanks to Elly and Sarah from Merlin's Magic Wand for an incredible day out!"
