Merlin’s Magic Wand
28th October 2016
This week Joanne Sibley, a student from Livability’s Victoria Education Centre in Poole, Dorset, was invited to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Coca-Cola London Eye on behalf of Merlin’s Magic Wand.
Merlin’s Magic Wand have been working with Victoria Education Centre in Poole for a number of years, including the installation of a Merlin’s Magic Space project last year which transformed the swimming pool changing rooms with a wave of the Magic Wand. Joanne has been very involved with the project and the ongoing relationship between MMW and Victoria School. Her enthusiasm and vibrant spirit made her the perfect person to hand over the bouquet to the Duchess of Cambridge during this important visit.
The event was organised as a ‘Heads Together’ charity coalition for World Mental Health Day focuses on the importance of 'psychological and mental health first aid for all'.
Joanne is passionate about raising awareness for mental health amongst young people. She was thrilled to receive this invite to the day and said: ‘Mental Health affects 1 in 4 people – it is so important that I attend this day and raise awareness. It has been a real honour to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.’
Sandra Hazel, Head of Merlin’s Magic Wand Children’s Charity said: ‘we are really committed to empowering young people to take part and flourish, so our involvement in the creation of the hydrotherapy sensory pool at Victoria Education Centre was a real priority for us. We are so pleased that Joanne has been able to be part of this important opportunity to mark World Mental Health Day. Joanne said it was a dream come true and the best day of her life. Thank you to everyone involved who made this possible.’
