Merlin’s Magic Wand
19th November 2018
Merlin’s Magic Wand have recently teamed up with Madame Tussauds Wuhan to deliver its first ever Madame Tussauds inspired Magic Spaces Project in China. The colourful, engaging and multifunctional room is situated in the specialist children’s heart disease ward.
The Wuhan Heart Disease Hospital (Children’s Department) specifically takes care of the children suffering from heart disease. The hospital is a tertiary cardiology hospital and was established on November 11, 1999. It has 750 beds, of which 107 are in its intensive care unit. Over the past 18 years, the hospital has provided free surgery to more than 8,400 low-income heart patients through charity projects.
The current children’s room was in need of the Merlin’s Magic Wand flair, to transform the space into an area with positive role models to inspire and give them the strength to heal. The room will provide a much needed fun space to distract them from their daily medical routine.
The motivation behind the theming was “To inspire children’s dreams” by using well known and positive figures like the famous female tennis player Li Na, basketball star Yao Ming and astronaut Yang Li Wei. We hope that the children will draw strength, inspiration and positivity from these role models. Having something else to focus on other than the treatments that they are undergoing gives them something positive and fun to think about and offers them some escapism from the reality of the daily health checks, procedures and protocols.
After careful consideration, planning and design, the transformation began. The team set to work and turned a once underused and unloved space into a magical, fun and engaging play zone, with all their favourite characters helping them look forward to a brighter future.
At the event Jordy Yang, General Manager of MT Wuhan said: “Merlin’s Magic Wand is a children's charity that supports children facing challenges of serious illness, disability or adversity around the world. So far, it has helped more than 580,000 children and their families worldwide. The smiles on the faces of the children when they saw the new playroom said it all. This project has been a great success and we are so happy to be working with Merlin’s Magic Wand.”
Erin Woods, Merlin’s Magic Wand Charity Manager said:
“We are extremely proud to have produced the very first Madame Tussauds-themed Magic Spaces Project in China, in partnership with the fantastic attraction team in Wuhan. Magic Spaces require a lot of time and dedication from a team of passionate people and the MT team can be sure that they have made a real difference for the children in their community with this project. On behalf of the MMW team, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Wuhan Heart Disease Hospital and Madame Tussauds Wuhan for making this dream a reality.”
Now that we have this amazing new project at the hospital, we will be arranging visits to continue to build the relationship with the department, spreading the magic of Merlin to those children who can’t access our attraction.
