The 47th Merlin’s Magic Spaces project was officially opened recently at Julia’s House Children’s Hospice in Corfe Mullen!
The unveiling of the Jurassic Coast-themed garden in the hospice entrance area took place at dusk so that attendees could enjoy seeing the new space illuminated by the magical lighting which has been installed as part of the project. The transformation of the bespoke space includes colourful dinosaur eggs and large dinosaur models, along with fun themed signs including “do not feed the dinosaurs” and dinosaur footprints! New plants and foliage along the pathways have been specially chosen to compliment the theme, leading to a stunning undercover reflection area, complete with seating. Nestled between the trees and plants are eye-catching mosaic butterflies and ammonites. The beautiful centre piece of the garden space is the rainbow which represents a spiritual symbol of hope.
Children who attend the hospice officially opened the garden with the cutting of the ribbon and Milly the charity mascot was on hand to help.
Erin Woods, MMW Charity Manager and Martin Edwards, CEO of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice gave emotive speeches on the great partnership formed between the charity and the hospice and what a difference this project will make to the children and the families who attend Julia’s House.
Erin Woods said of the project “We are so proud to have supported Julia’s House Children’s Hospice for many years through our Magical Days Out programme and it gives us great joy to be able to now provide them with one of our beautiful bespoke Merlin’s Magic Spaces. The employees of Merlin Entertainments Head Office and other attractions around the world have been fundraising to help us produce projects like this and it has been a great team effort to create this unique garden. Julia’s House Hospice provides incredible services and facilities for its beneficiaries and we are privileged to be able to add some further value to that doing what we do best – bringing the magic!”
Special thanks go to the Merlin’s Magic Making team for the design and concept ideas, to Frank and Dan Grogan from the SEA LIFE Weymouth team and Elly Turner the MMW Project Manager for bringing the ideas to fruition and coordinating the project. Plus the many volunteers at Julia’s House Hospice and Merlin Entertainments Head Office who helped with the painting and planting.

Julia’s House is a Children's Hospice in Dorset and Wiltshire. An award-winning children’s hospice charity dedicated to bringing comfort and care to families across the two counties. Julia’s House exists to help these children and their families by providing practical and emotional support, tailoring care to the needs of each individual child and their family, providing frequent and regular support in their own homes, in the community or at the hospices.
Merlin’s Magic Wand Children’s Charity is proud to be able to enhance the experience of the visits to Julia’s House Hospice with this unique Merlin’s Magic Space, designed to be fun and interesting whilst remaining sensitive and respectful to the work of the hospice.
