Merlin’s Magic Wand
2nd January 2015
Sea stars, sea cucumbers and a fresh water turtle named Merlin brought smiles to the faces of sick children when Merlin’s Magic Wand took them and lots of other fascinating ocean artefacts to the Children’s Ward at Nambour Hospital.
SEA LIFE Mooloolaba Charity Champion Vicki Brown said “Many children, through serious illness, disability or other disadvantage are not able to enjoy the kind of days out that others take for granted. It’s fantastic to be able to take the Merlin magic to children who can’t have a day out”.
Wishlist CEO Lisa Rowe said this is a wonderful opportunity for pediatric patients and adds another dimension to the diversional therapy programs Wishlist has been running in the Children’s Ward which includes yoga, play, music and pet therapy.
“Having qualified therapists attend the Ward reduces anxiety and insomnia for children facing ongoing medical treatment and helps the healing process,” Lisa said. “We’re excited to have Merlin’s Magic Wand involved in creating such a great environment of joy in the Children’s Ward.”
