Amy’s Place in Miniland at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort

In the spring of 2025, 18-year-old Amy and her family shared a Magical Day Out at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. Amy was living with a terminal diagnosis of Ewing Sarcoma. Throughout hospital treatment, LEGO® had become a great source of comfort, where her hospital table often resembled a LEGO® workshop more than a bedside station.

Throughout treatment Amy was supported by a Young Lives vs Cancer specialist social worker who recognised her love for LEGO® and started exploring ways her and her family could create special memories together involving LEGO®. With Merlin’s Magic Wand, she helped to arrange a visit for Amy and her family to LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. Creative Coordinators April and Arturs crafted a VIP day beyond imagination, with private tours, goodies and behind the scenes magic.

“Honestly, it was fantastic,” Amy’s mum, Natasha, reflected afterwards. “Every one of us smiled all day. It really was amazing.”

A few months later, Amy sadly passed away.

As her family navigated the difficult months that followed, Amy’s younger siblings spoke about their day at LEGOLAND® and the memories they had created with Amy.

When Young Lives vs Cancer approached Merlin’s Magic Wand to ask whether another visit might be possible, the team immediately remembered Amy.

The LEGOLAND® team, who had met Amy during her visit and held that day close to their hearts, wanted to find a way to ensure her memory would remain part of LEGOLAND® Windsor for years to come.

Their idea was simple and beautiful: create a Minilander inspired by Amy and place her within Miniland.

When Natasha heard the suggestion, she replied “That is absolutely amazing!!! Honestly made me cry in the best way […] She will be remembered and I am truly grateful for everyone that's helping that happen. I can't wait to tell people they can see her there.”

She also shared that Amy had also welcomed a puppy, Diesel, into the family.

“If possible,” she wrote, “could they make her with a mini figure of the dog with her also – and then she won’t be on her own”

April and Lucy from the team embraced every detail.

Amy’s love of Paris also felt especially meaningful. Shortly before she passed away, she and her boyfriend had travelled there together, creating cherished memories.

So, the decision was made that Amy’s Minilander would stand outside the Eiffel Tower in Miniland. Dressed in her favourite colour, accompanied by Diesel, and surrounded by the city she loved.

Back home, the family has also received a replica model as a keepsake - a reminder that Amy’s place in Miniland would always be waiting for them. Her family returned to LEGOLAND® Windsor in July 2026.

The impact of Amy’s visit had reached far beyond a single day. Her younger sister found inspiration in her conversations with the LEGOLAND® model makers and engineers. So much so that she chose to pursue an engineering course, speaking about LEGOLAND® and her experiences there during applications. For this return visit, the family were delighted to learn they would be welcomed personally by the Vice President of LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, Neil Poulter.

On the quiet July morning, before guests filled the pathways and before the sounds of the park echoed across the resort, Amy’s family stood together as her Minilander was placed into Miniland.

And now, as guests continue to discover Miniland, Amy will remain there too - standing proudly beside the Eiffel Tower, with Diesel by her side, bringing smiles to generations of visitors to come.
