Global children’s charity Merlin’s Magic Wand creates magical new space for the families of Bear Cottage.
A 12-month labour of love, the new space is inspired by the Manly attraction and is complete with marine-inspired graphics and underwater theming. Working closely with the staff at the Manly-based medical facility to create a suitable bathroom space, the new area will give young patients and their families a break from the daily routine of doctors’ appointments and create a calming and visually-appealing area to enjoy.
The charity arm of the world’s second largest tourism operator, Merlin Entertainments Group, Merlin’s Magic Wand aims to bring the magic back into the lives of children facing challenges of serious illness or disability and their families.
Merlin’s Magic Wand spokesperson, Ashley Hayes, said the impact the charity’s initiatives has on children and their families, is more than just a day out or new space, it’s about creating magical experiences.
“Helping to create magical and positive memories in the lives of children facing challenges of serious illness or disability is the core purpose of Merlin’s Magic Wand. To see this project complete and the looks on the faces of the children enjoying the new bathroom truly is a priceless feeling,” said Ms Hayes.
“We are proud to have not only paid homage to Manly Sea Life Sanctuary but also assist Bear Cottage in helping them continue to provide such amazing support for the families who utilise their services.” Bear Cottage Community Relations Manager, Bronwen Simmons said it is rewarding to see this project complete and have a new space for the facilities’ families to enjoy.
“Our staff work day in day out to help our patients and their families by making them as comfortable as possible. This new space will help bring create a calming space for them to enjoy,” said Mrs Simmons.
