Turning sixteen should be unforgettable - and for Chase, it truly was. Living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy means that each year brings new challenges, but last month, thanks to the team at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Michigan, his birthday became a masterpiece of memory, creativity, and connection.
From the moment Chase and his family stepped through the bright LEGO archway, the day was bursting with color, imagination, and laughter.
“It was nice to be able to get out as a family and do something we all enjoyed. Chase gets a lot of anxiety about getting out of the house but was so happy to be able to check out LEGO and build. He loved being able to build LEGO with Clint. Clint was great! He gave us a tour and talked about the special builds. I think the day was great.”
LDC Michigan’s very own LEGO Master Model Builder, Clint Parry, went above and beyond to make the day accessible, fun, and meaningful. Knowing Chase’s love of Star Wars and building challenges, Clint created a private session tailored just for him. Together, they built small Star Wars ships, shared stories, and explored creative techniques, turning LEGO® bricks into a language of joy and understanding.
For Chase’s older siblings, Lauren and Brendan, the day was equally special. They watched their brother light up with excitement, his worries replaced by smiles and laughter. It was a moment of connection - a rare, beautiful break from the weight of daily medical routines.
And because no trip to LDC Michigan is complete without a little adventure, the family explored Miniland, the incredible miniature LEGO world built from over a million bricks. Clint sprinkled in fun facts and behind-the-scenes stories, giving the family a peek into the creativity and craftsmanship that makes every build unique.
Moments like this remind us why inclusive, accessible experiences matter so much. For Chase and his family, this wasn’t just a birthday outing, it was a celebration of what’s possible when creativity meets compassion.
